Stars & Life zones

OPENING QUESTIONS: What is the (somewhat whimsical) term used to describe that area around a star that is capable of supporting life?

For that matter, how do we define that zone? In otherwords, what principle condition must exist within that zone?

OBJECTIVE:  I will be able to sketch Goldilocks Zone around a particular type (OBAFGKM) of star during today's class.

WORD FOR TODAY:

  • solar nebula
  • fusion
  • nucleosynthesis
  • Strong Force
  • main sequence
  • Blue Giant Stars
  • Red Dwarf Stars
  • Yellow Stars
  • White Dwarf Stars
  • Black Dwarfs
  • Brown Dwarfs
  • Black Holes
  • Neutron Stars
  • Main Sequence

CALENDAR:  STARS unit test on Thursday, October 31st (BOO!)

WORK O' THE DAY

How are your OUAP projects coming along? Turn 'em in if you got 'em! If you are doing an electronic/file project be sure and save it on your Google Drive, share it with me and then copy the URL into our classroom submissions page (on our home page HERE)

Please sketch your type of star with a planet capable of supporting life orbiting around that star.

Do a wee bit of research and suggest a likely distance from that star where that planet could support life.

Be sure and label the size, color, surface temperature and other features of that star (we'll go around and look at other groups' work so they'll need a point of reference)
